Advantages of stainless steel 316Ti material

As an improved material of the 316 series, 316Ti stainless steel has significantly improved its performance by adding titanium. Its advantages are mainly reflected in the following aspects:

 

1. Excellent corrosion resistance

Anti-intergranular corrosion: The addition of titanium combines with carbon to form titanium carbide, which effectively solves the intergranular corrosion problem of 316 stainless steel. It is particularly suitable for environments with dilute sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, organic acids and chlorides (such as seawater and salt spray).

Anti-pitting and crevice corrosion: In high-temperature chloride environments (such as chemical industry and marine engineering), 316Ti's resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion is significantly better than that of ordinary 316 stainless steel.

Wide medium adaptability: It can withstand highly corrosive media such as sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, acetic acid, and chemical environments with high temperature and high pressure.

 

2. High temperature stability and mechanical properties

High temperature strength: It can still maintain high strength and stability in the range of 300~800℃, and is suitable for high temperature and high pressure scenes such as petrochemical industry and nuclear power.

Excellent mechanical properties: It has both high tensile strength (similar to 316) and good ductility, and is easy to process and shape (such as cutting, welding, and bending).

Improved wear resistance: The surface hardness is high, suitable for manufacturing valves, pump bodies and other parts that require long-term wear resistance.

 

3. Hygiene and safety characteristics

Non-toxic and pollution-free: It meets food and medical grade standards, does not release harmful substances, and is widely used in food processing equipment, tableware and surgical instruments.

Easy to clean: The surface is smooth and not easy to breed bacteria, suitable for the high cleanliness requirements of the pharmaceutical and medical industries.

 

4. Composition optimization and material stability

Accurate chemical composition: Carbon content ≤0.08% (reduces carbide precipitation), titanium content 5C%~0.70%, with chromium (16%~19%), nickel (10%~14%), and molybdenum (2%~3%) to ensure a balance between corrosion resistance and mechanical properties.

Non-magnetic: The austenite structure makes it non-magnetic in most application scenarios, suitable for special needs such as electronics and medical equipment.

 

5. Wide application areas

Chemical and energy: used in reactors, pipeline valves (such as Z41W-316 titanium gate valves) and nuclear power equipment.

Marine engineering: The seawater corrosion resistance is suitable for ship ballast systems and offshore platform facilities.

High-end manufacturing: medical devices (such as artificial joints), aviation components and food processing equipment all rely on its reliable performance.

 

Through the addition of titanium elements and composition optimization, 316Ti stainless steel has outstanding performance in corrosion resistance, high temperature stability, hygienic safety, etc. Although the cost is relatively high, its long life and low maintenance cost make it significantly economical in harsh industrial environments.
