Both GOST 33259-2015 and EN 1092-1 are flange standards used for steel pipe flanges, but they come from different systems:
GOST 33259-2015: Russian (Eurasian) standard.
EN 1092-1: European standard (widely used across the EU).
Here's a breakdown of the main differences:
1. Design System & Origin
Aspect | GOST 33259-2015 | EN 1092-1 |
Region | Russia/CIS (Eurasian Union) | European Union |
Based on | GOST (old Soviet system), adapted closer to ISO over time | Based on ISO 7005-1 |
Application | General industry (incl. oil/gas, power) | Broad industrial use (process piping, mechanical) |
2. Flange Types
Both have similar types, but names and type designations differ slightly:
Function | GOST 33259-2015 Type | EN 1092-1 Type |
Welding neck | Type 01 | Type 11 |
Slip-on | Type 02 | Type 12 |
Blind | Type 05 | Type 05 |
Threaded | Type 04 | Type 13 |
Loose on stub end | Type 03/06 | Type 02 (loose plate) + 35 (stub end) |
3. Dimensions
Bolt circle diameters (PCD), bolt sizes, thicknesses, etc., can differ between equivalent DN/PN ratings.
Even if two flanges are both DN100 PN16, their bolt hole arrangements or face-to-face dimensions may differ between GOST and EN.
4. Bolt Hole Patterns
GOST flanges may use metric bolt holes with different P.C.D. (pitch circle diameters) compared to EN.
You cannot assume interchangeability between GOST and EN flanges even at the same DN/PN.
5. Material & Marking Requirements
EN 1092-1 has more stringent material traceability and CE marking requirements (aligned with PED – Pressure Equipment Directive).
GOST has its own TR CU (Technical Regulation of Customs Union) compliance requirements.
